Oneness of Self

Before I get into the One World Concert that was on Tuesday night, I promised I would talk more about the panel. Even though the panel was centralized around the idea of peace, things got political really fast. Every panel member got their two cents in about what would contribute to world peace. Here were some of their points:

-Providing clean water worldwide
-Completely getting off oil (not just foreign oil, but oil in general)
-Education
-Solving poverty
-Finding a cure for HIV/AIDS
-Stressing the importance of women's rights
-Being able to ask questions in order to become educated
-Choosing dialogue over war and weapons
-Getting off nuclear energy
-Getting rid of violent video games
-Focusing on health

Everyone wanted to get their word in so it seemed like the questions the audience members were asking were not getting answered. There were a lot of tangents being explored in those two panels.

My favorite speaker in the second panel was Roxana Saberi, an Iranian American freelance journalist who was falsely imprisoned in Iran for spying for the United States. She said,

"The greatest human fear is to be forgotten, but we need to know that we are not alone."

I was inspired after watching the panel of speakers. It made me want to do something good in this crazy world. And this also has to do with my running around to my dean and advisor freaking out about what I'm gong to do with life. That kind of understanding comes with time. I'm not worried about what I am going to do, I'm just impatient to find out. I want to do something I'll be remembered for, and thanks to Roxana, I know that I am not alone.
