Yesterday, the senior vice president of marketing for USA Today and a c/o 1991 Syracuse University Newhouse grad came to speak at the Herg Auditorium. I am totally digging all of these talks.
COLLEGE TIP: Take advantage of all the speakers that come on campus.
I know that they were once in my shoes and it is comforting to hear them encourage you to think broadly and pursue a ton of different things. Sandra started out as a Television Radio and Film Management major and she ended up in marketing and advertising.
NOTE: Your major does not automatically brand who you are. The skills you pick up and use are the most important aspect of your studies, not so much the content itself.
Sandra talked about USA Today's logo change which was pretty bold and progressive. My dad doesn't really dig USA Today, but I suggest that he checks it out now. It's very new-looking and very reader friendly. Oh and just so he knows and all you do to: USA Today does indeed have their own writers. It is not recycled news. USA Today's journalism style was designed to appeal to its readers who wanted a brief and precise read about the facts of the day. USA Today gives the reader the facts so they can make opinions on their own.
Check out the introduction video of the new logo!
Last night, the entirety of DellPlain got together in the main lounge to watch the votes get counted for the election. There were film students making documentaries about student views on modern politics. Some guys were ferociously battling it out in a ping pong match. A lot of people were doing homework. Some girls were drawing in their sketchbooks.

You know what's cool about America? Its people really care about the country and who leads it. Everyone is very passionate about the country they live in and they believe in the awesome rights that we all have as Americans. I saw something cool on FaceBook from a high school sophomore friend of mine. He said that people should discuss their opinions and at the same time we will all learn to respect our differences. We're not going to agree all the time, but at least we are aware of how others think.

WINS OF TODAY
Win #1: I had my Spanish presentation today. I did a research project on the Andes region in Venezuela, Colombia, and Ecuador. I felt pretty darn good about it. It made me want to go hiking again. BOOM. GRACIAS.
Win #2: Here I have the laminated copies of Alex's photography which will be taped together into a table display for the Breezeway Cafe. Only 4 more tables to go.

Oh, you'll see more on this later. |
Win #3: I have picked all my classes for the Spring 2013 Semester. I have to wait 24 hours and I then I can register online. Newhouse has a supreme advantage over every other college at SU. We has 3 advising sessions about how to register for classes. In my freshman COM class, we watched cat videos, ate pizza, and filled out our choice sheets as a chill group.
Enjoy. This is how Newhouse rolls.
I'm excited that the kids back home are working on their college applications. You got this, guys. Stay strong, put in your all, and apply to Syracuse. Go Orange.
